There has been increased uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford, with Mauricio Pochettino reportedly being lined up to become the club’s new manager next summer.Mourinho has not held back in criticising his squad this season after recently claiming some players care more than others, as well as accusing others of “lacking heart”, as he battles to haul United out of their current crisis.Ahead of Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenalthe Portuguese boss also called out some of his players for being “dishonest”.He said: If you think a player only plays when, in your words, he is behind the manager, what I have to call these players or, in this case, what you are calling them, is dishonest.”But Holloway, who has over 20 years experience in management himself, stands firmly behind The Special One in this ongoing debate. He said: Ive been upset recently with how Mourinho has been treated. You can argue that he looks miserable and all that, but I fully agree with him.“Some of those Man United players shouldnt be paid. You cant pick and choose when you play for a massive club like that.If he loses those players because of that, whos right and who is wrong?Im sure Sir Alex Ferguson would have told those players that, and they would have been scared of him – so why’s it different with him?“It’s absolutely ridiculous for me.” Mourinho won the Community Shield, League Cup and the Europa League in his first season in charge (2016/17), but has struggled to push the club on to bigger things since.Holloway continued: Hes a machine and a winner. If he doesn’t win he gets thrown out of clubs.I did laugh the other day when he said Im not a magician, well he was The Special One.The thing is the game does catch up with you and have to adjust to that accordingly and make the necessary improvements.“But never in a million years should a player put on a shirt and not give his all I cant have that. That is not the manager’s fault.I keep watching that clip of Bill Shankly, ‘they should be put in prison if they dont try hard’ – and I agree with him!”
