Chelsea 2-2 Burnley: Maurizio Sarri allegedly called ‘s*** Italian’ by Clarets’ backroom staff during Premier League draw
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was branded a ‘s*** Italian’ by members of the Burnley backroom staff during Monday evening’s Premier League draw, reports claim.Sarri was sent off in the final stages of the 2-2 draw after getting increasingly agitated with some of Sean Dyche’s coaching team, and he was so angered by alleged insults that the Italian refused to take part in his post-match media duties.Sarri was sent down the tunnel by the matchday officials1

Gianfranco Zola, the Chelsea assistant, took the press conference in Sarri’s absence, and claimed the former Napoli boss was offended by what was said to him.Zola said: “He’s very frustrated, so he’d prefer not to come over here. He’s been sent off. I think he’s been offended as well, so he didn’t feel it was the right thing to do, to speak to you.“I think he’s been told something from their bench, but don’t ask me exactly what. I don’t want to go down that line, but we’ll see what we can do about that. “I think there will be a follow [up] on that. Maurizio felt very unhappy. We understand it’s a football game. You say words because of the adrenaline, but he wasn’t particularly happy.”As Zola suggested, Chelsea are expected to lodge a format complaint with the Football Association over the comments made to Sarri.Though there has been no official confirmation as to what was said by the members of Burnley’s backroom team, ESPN claim they repeatedly called Sarri a ‘s*** Italian’.Burnley boss Dyche was not involved in the exchanges.

Chelsea moved up into fourth place with the point claimed on Monday evening, though the three other teams battling for a top four finish – Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United – all have a game in hand over Sarri’s side.Jeff Hendrick opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge with a fine volley, before N’Golo Kante and Gonzalo Higuain sent the Blues back in front inside the opening 15 minutes. However, Ashley Barnes netted the equaliser ten minutes later, and Chelsea failed to retake the lead throughout the remaining hour of action.
